Tooth Whitening - Bleaching Instructions

  1. Place the bleaching solution (15% carbamide peroxide) into the indentations of the bleaching tray. You should use very little of the material, just lining the ‘front’ of the teeth.
  2. Place the tray into your mouth. Spit out the excess solution. The tray should be worn overnight. The tray should be used until the bleaching solution you have been given is used up (one to three weeks). Three carpules should be used for the upper teeth, and two for the lower. It should not be worn longer than three weeks.
  3. Avoid drinking tea, coffee and red wine. These substances will stain the teeth during the bleaching process. If there are any side effects such as burning, swelling, pain, gum changes, loss of taste, bite problems, etc., the bleaching should be discontinued and Dr. Stein notified.
  4. Avoid contact of the solution with eyes. Protect solution from heat and light. Keep this and all other drugs out of the reach of children. In case of ingestion of the solution by a child, seek medical assistance or contact a poison control center immediately.
  5. The trays are delicate and must be handled carefully. They should always be put in the case when they are not in use. There will be a nominal charge to replace lost or damaged trays.
